How points open a tree
The first common row is available immediately. Investing 5 and 10 points in earlier common rows opens the next common rows. At 15 common points, the three branches open. Spend 5 points within a branch to open its next row, and 10 within that branch to reach the last row. Investing in one branch does not advance another branch. Some passives also require a named preceding skill.
In practice, a 15-point common trunk and 10-point branch reaches that branch’s Capstone. This describes the unlock investment; a passive in that final row still costs its own rank points. The official character pages explain the tree structure, while an original player report explains the branch-specific 10-point requirement.
Action Skills, Augments and Capstones are different choices
Only one Action Skill is equipped at a time. You can choose an Action Skill without investing in its tree, but its Augments and Capstones must come from the matching tree. These modifiers cost no points themselves; unlocking and equipping them are separate steps. Most hunters equip one Augment and one Capstone.
C4SH’s exception
C4SH has no Capstones. Each of his trees includes the one-point Devil’s Tines passive, which adds an Augment slot. Taking all three increases the total to four slots. The planner counts those ranks while still restricting equipped Augments to the selected Action Skill’s tree. Read the C4SH route guide before spreading points solely for slots.
What to plan before choosing gear
- Compare the six Action Skill styles above and choose the one you want to press during fights.
- Find the branch modifier that supports that Action Skill. Budget its common-trunk and branch investment.
- Check named skill prerequisites, then use remaining points for passives in other trees.
- Keep equipment bonuses separate from allocated ranks; the planner does not estimate DPS or decide a best-in-slot loadout.
